Umami Burger
Tonight I went on my second venture to Umami Burger on Union Street in San Francisco. And, for the second time, I ordered the infamous truffle burger. Yes, it is all it is hyped up to be. Salty yet not over-powering, juicy, soft, and sensational. It thrives in it's simplicity and I officially am hooked. I went with my vegetarian friend who ordered, believe it or not, the veggie burger. Her response was positive as mine: "The sun-dried tomatoes just popped out onto the crisp parmesan cheese [to make the] bite full of texture and taste!" she raved. Along with our burgers we ordered truffle fries, sweet potato fries, and tempura fried onion rings. (There were three of us, I promise). Now, if anything were to beat the truffle burger, its the truffle fries. And don't shy away of getting one and not the other for fear of truffle overdose. I can assure you that does not and can not happen. The sweet potato fries are some of the best that I have ever tasted. The real brown sugar sprinkled on top create a sweet addition to the salty flavors already fostered in my mouth: a must order for sure. I wasn't the biggest fan of the onion rings, as they were very bitter, though I do give the chef kudos for toning down the fried aspect and giving the rings less of their usual oily taste. Overall the trip to Umami is worth whatever distance you are traveling from. I recommend going on a week night though, because the Marina on a Friday or Saturday night is NOT where you want to go for a quick bite of burger.
