For Mother's Day, my mom decided to try a restaurant for brunch that she had been following. It is called Bar Agricole, and is in the SOMA district of SF. Now, I know you're not supposed to "judge a book by it's cover" but that is impossible when you walk towards this modern restaurant. It was hands-down one of the coolest restaurants I have ever seen. There was a huge tent-like covering an outside eating area which they claim is so well heated with heat lamps that it is never cold out there. Then, a modern wood + stone ramp leads up to the main restaurant, with cactus plants among bold slabs of steal throughout. Inside, the restaurant is narrow but reaches back pretty far, and there is even a downstairs area of seating for larger parties (think party seating of about 10-15 people). Once we got seated for our 1:00 pm reservation--perfectly on time, I might add--my mom told my dad and I to "order and eat a lot, because I'm not making dinner." And on that note, the massive ordering commenced. Between the 3 of us, we ordered 4 'starters.' Beignets (one order comes with 3 good-sized doughnuts), 1 cornmeal pancake (the size of a platter!) 1 (huge) bowl of granola, yogurt, honey and rhubarb, and 1 scone. By the time we finished off these beginners, our stomaches were bursting--but we still had our main courses to go! For the second half of the meal we each got one plate: Fried eggs with sausage for my dad, asparagus with egg and bacon for my mom, and corned beef hash with hollandaise sauce for me. Granted, we ended up taking a lot of food home, but we were all so happy with what we had ordered! Now, if you are above 21, I hear the mixed drinks are amazing, and would probably recommend them to you if you you're into the whole '10 am time to party' type of deal. And, if you're in the mood for a cool drink but not too much alcohol, they will not add a lot of content upon request. Alas, if you are still under 21 like me, there are also specialty drinks that you can have in exchange. My mom ordered a ginger beer--very intense and tasty, and I ordered an herb limeade--bubbly and refreshing. They also serve drip coffee, my favorite. I will post the pictures of the food we ordered, and label them accordingly with prices. I recommend this restaurant 100%, the service was great, the food was filling and absolutely delicious, and the scene was happy and lively. They only serve brunch on Sundays, but I definitely plan on going back there for dinner as well.
